Our Accomplishments

OUR SUCCESSES

Star Trackers Track & Field Club is always blessed and never short on successes and accomplishments both on and off the track. The 2010-2011 track season was an exciting and productive year.

Our hurdlers and middle distance athletes participated in the Hurdles Fest in Jamaica, team members participated in the Golden Eagles Track Meet in Freeport and our seniors travelled to Golden South Classic, Orlando, FL. The coaches were pleased with the overall performances, and used the results as performance readiness indicators for the season.

The International competition started with J. Audley Carey being named, once again, to the NACAC Cross Country Team in Trinidad.

Eleven (11) athletes were named to the 2011 Carifta Games Team in Montego Bay, Jamaica,. The athletes won six (6) individual medals and several relay medals; Devynne Charlton won gold in the 100m, silver in the 4x100 and was 4th in the 100mH. Carmiesha Cox won gold in the 200m, silver in the 4x100 and was a finalist in the 100m. We had a silver haul with Devinn, Cartwright, J. Audley Carey and D’Mitry Charlton in the Pentathlon, 1500m and 400mH respectively. Devinn also won a bronze medal in the 4x400 along with teammate Ashley Johnson. Taryn Rolle and Andriel Strachan both experienced their first Carifta Team and had impressive performances in the TJ and HJ respectively. Andriel was also a finalist in the 100mH. Trevorvano Mackey won a bronze medal in the 4x100 and was a finalist in the 100m while Patrick Bodie was a finalist in both the 110mH and 400mH. Stephen Newbold won bronze in the 400m, anchored the 4x100 to a bronze medal and ran an impressive third leg on the 4x400m to win gold and capture the Carifta Games Record.

Three (3) of our members travelled to Lille France as a part of the World Youth Championships Team; Devynne, Carmiesha and Stephen. Devynne and Carmiesha were semi-finalists in the 100m and 200m respectively and were also members of the medley relay. The highlight of the Championships was the GOLD medal performance by Stephen ‘Durty’ Newbold in the 200m in a time of 20.89, Star Trackers’ first World Champion!

Devynne, Carmiesha, Trevorvano, Nejmi Burnside (collegiate athlete), J.Audley and Patrick were members on the Pan Am Jr. Championships Team in Miramar, FL. Devynne and Carmiesha won gold in the 4x100m relay and Devynne also captured a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay. Trevorvano won a bronze in the 4x100m.

Trevorvano and Nathan Arnett (collegiate athlete) were members of the CAC Championships Team in Puerto Rico.

Our student athletes demonstrated their talents both on and off the track. Patrick Bodie, J. Audley Carey, Devynne Charlton and Stephen Newbold were honoured by the BAAA as All Bahamian Scholar Athletes. Eight (8) of our senior athletes were also recipients of scholarships, namely; Patrick Bodie, J. Audley Carey, Devinn Cartwright, Cymone Hamilton, Ashley Johnson, Trevorvano Mackey, Stephen Newbold and Travalious Thompson. The club is proud to boast that since its establishment, in 2001, over thirty (30) of our student athletes have received scholarships to colleges and universities.

Coach Charlton was voted “Coach of the Year 2011”, Stephen Newbold “Junior Male Track Athlete of the Year 2011” and J. Audley Carey “Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year 2011”.

Our coaches and executives would not me left behind, Coach Charlton was Asst. Coach for the World Youth Championships Team and Head Coach for the Carifta Games Team and was assisted by Coach Strachan. Coach Rolle was chaperone for the Pan Am Jr. Championships Team and Coach Ferguson was Head Coach for the CAC Championships Team. Our Treasurer and Team Manager, Laura Pratt-Charlton, was Manager for Penn Relays and Assistant Manager for World Youth Championships Teams as well as IAAF Congress Delegate for World Championships in Daegu, Korea.
