OUR SUCCESSES

Star Trackers Track Club has had many successes in our short history and we are proud to boast that this past track season was no exception, seeing our student athletes excel both athletically and academically.

This past season our athletes successfully competed at the Douglas Forrest Invitational in Jamaica and they were able to compete with the best of the best in Jamaica and made our club and the Bahamas proud leaving the meet with several medal winning performances. At the Baytaf Invitational in Tampa, FL, we are proud to say that that the athletes once again were "Shining Stars" recording many personal bests. Six (6) of our athletes were named to the 2008 Carfita Games Team held in St. Kitts and we had a record breaking performance from Nejmi Burnside who won a gold medal in the 400mH and shattered the Carifta Games Record. Nejmi was also a member of the 2008 Jr. World Championships Team in Poland. Three (3) of our youth athletes were on the 2008 Caribbean Union of Teachers' (CUT) Athletic Championships Team in Tortola, British Virgin Islands and saw a bronze medal performance in the 800m from one of our younger athletes, Stephen Newbold. One of our college based athlete, Carlyle Thompson, was on the Sr. CAC Championships Team in Columbia.

Our athletes had successes both on and off the track. Four (4) of our athletes were recipients of athletic scholarships to major US Universities, namely P'Lar Dorsett from Portland State University, Tai Dorsett from Mississippi State University, Karlton Rolle from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Trevor Strachan Jr. from Liberty University. We had exceptional results from our student athletes in the BJC's, BGCSE's and SAT's and we are very proud of Lauren Charlton who scored 1980 on her SAT Exams (grade 11).

Coach Ferguson successfully completed the IAAF Level IV Coaches Certification in May 2008 and Coach Charlton was successful in completing the IAAF Lecturers Certification Course at the RDC in Puerto Rico in April 2008.

The successes of the organization is due mainly to the tri-fold relationship between athletes, coaches and parents. The athletes are committed, focused and disciplined and the coaches and parents are truly dedicated to the programme.
